Proposal:

Introduction

A desired brief chosen by the author, will demonstrate various prosthetic appliances, along with any additional necessities. As prosthetics is the authors desirable line of work, the project will allow reasonable exploration and experimentation within prosthetics, leading towards the final outcome of a campaign for Animal Rights. A role reversal act of animal testing will be demonstrated within the make up, representing the harsh brutality of an act performed on an animal. After the research process, the project will eventually be demonstrated through an editorial photo shoot incorporated within an animal rights campaign poster, featuring an actual rabbit. A female model will be replicating the animal to raise awareness of the horrific abuse that is inflicted on wild animals for beauty products, and using herself as the “voice of the voiceless” to convey the act of cruelty committed.

Planning

The author intends to produce multiple mind-maps at the beginning of the project to mark all the possible ideas and directions the author could proceed with. By allocating these ideas via hard copy, the author has a clearer idea of what route to pursue. Mind mapping also gives a general outlook on what is achievable within the timeframe.

Tutorial Discussions

Any discussion within the tutorials will be recorded and used accordingly within the project for improvement. Written Tutorial notes will make the author aware of any changes that need altering and will also demonstrate improvement and progression within the project.

Research

For the author to pursue with the desired project, a satisfactory exploration of research will have to be considered in order to achieve a believable campaign. In depth research will be considered for the chosen project, such as

  • Looking into animal testing

  •  Animal rights campaigns/ Petitions

  • Background Research into companies that are against animal testing

  •  Eye and Skin infections and diseases

  •  Animal rights advertisements

Any additional research will be researched during the progression of the project.

Time Management

A Gantt chart will be constructed via Microsoft Excel to ensure the project is completed by the deadline. A Gantt chart will allow for weekly progress to be tracked efficiently, and to follow smaller, stricter deadlines within the main timeframe.

Budget

The author will calculate an estimated budget for the materials used, such as:Platsil Gel A 00Platsil Gel B 00Smith’s DeadenerPlus additional materials of a lower cost.

Model Profile

Having the use of a model profile, the author is able to analyse key facial characteristics to use these to accurately associate with hard-copy and digital designs.

Course Collaboration

Costume, Photography and possibly Graphic Design will be contacted and provided with a version of the brief, giving them an outline of what needs to be produced, and their possible roles within the project. All parties will be notified in advance, of the schedule, in order to avoid time conflictions. All those involved will be given recognition in the final outcome, and given a digital copy of the outcome for their portfolio.

Design Ideas

Designs will be created and produced, both hard-copy, as well as possibly sculpted digitally via Zbrush.

Experimental Appliances

Several makeup appliances will be performed throughout the project to minimise the application time before the final deadline. Each application produced will be carefully monitored throughout, and photographic documentation will be demonstrated for improvement before the final application.

Practical Work

An accumulation of prosthetic pieces will be produced during the project. A full face cast will be taken, filled with the desired material and fibre glassed. A clay sculpt of the design will be moulded through the fibreglass process and then filled with silicone to create the final pieces. Relevant research will be taken into consideration to create an accurate result.

Final Outcome

This will be demonstrated through an editorial photo shoot incorporated in to a campaign poster. A real animal will be used in the shoot to increase awareness. The project will be submitted in an online blog, which will be found at www.lauracolemanmua.wordpress.com along with a hardcopy, A5 sketchbook demonstrating various designs.
