Introduction

My proposal originally was to produce an animal rights campaign, morphing both animal characteristics together to allow the person to be the voice of the voiceless. I decided not to go ahead with that idea in the end due to my lack of interest in the outcome I wanted to produce, having said that I felt I was biting off more than I could chew, so i’ve decided to still use the animals rights campaign as my final outcome, but I want to produce a role reversal make up that demonstrates the brutal acts in which animals face day to day in the laboratory, all for beauty products.I wish to pursue with this project not only because I am strongly opinionated with anti-testing but because I also feel it gives me the opportunity to produce work that will raise public awareness.

The Proposal Presentation

Here is the digital copy of the class presentation. A few slides to outline the aims and outcomes of the project

Slide One

These are a few campaigns I came across among my researching. Tessa Osner was the artist who designed these three campaigns, the intention was to create a campaign to bring the issue of Rhino poaching home, and pose the question ” What if you were in the same position? ” . She took three different prospectives ( A man, a parent of an infant and a woman )to encourage the campaign from all angles of human life that is personal to us.Personally, I think using the role reversal tactic to show awareness is a lot more effective than using animals.

Slide Two

These are a few editorial beauty photoshoots that I collected together, that highlights the effects of make up testing on animals. I thought this would be useful to use within my project, as my model will be involved within an editorial photoshoot, demonstrating the procedures of harsh chemicals and products used upon animals. The aim is to create a facial and hair prosthetic, demonstrating the effects of cosmetic testing.

Slide Three

As a massive animal lover, PETA advertised various editorial campaigns with woman and men nude with the slogan ” I’d rather go naked than wear fur” , these campaigns were published to bring awareness to the millions of animals who are inhumanely tortured and killed for their fur. The first advertisement became so popular and inspirational that since then, thousands of people, including celebrities have undressed for the campaign.

Slide Four

Following forward from my previous slide, I thought it would be a good idea to incorporate my own rabbits into the editorial photoshoot to strengthen the effect on the audience and also gain an emotional connection. As I have my own pet rabbits, this project is slightly personal to me and as a pet owner, I couldn’t physically observe my animals be put through such brutal procedures, that they do within the laboratories. So why should these animals suffer all for beauty cosmetics…just for us?

Slide Five

These are rough outline digital designs of what could potentially be my final outcome, considering I changed my proposal last minute, I had to produce some quick digital designs using photoshop. Taking on board what the previous slides have shown, and some imagination on my part, I will hopefully be able to produce some silicone flat pieces to be applied to the facial area to replicate procedures inflicted on animals. Scalp damage will also be considered to replicate the removal of fur.
Slide Six

Here is an interesting advertisement by Lush Cosmetics, demonstrating awareness, again using a human to be the role reversal victim. It’s interesting to observe the amount of interest perceived from the audience when a human is treated inhumanely. So many people are unaware of the brutal reality of animal testing and it goes unnoticed. I strongly believe in today’s society people take things for granted and don’t think to realise where and how their cosmetics and fashion clothing is made.Video can be found at :
