Animal
Testing
evaluation
During the process of my project, I did thoroughly enjoy experimenting with new materials. I found using fibreglass very overwhelming, and in terms of time management, took longer than expected to make my mould.
From the launch of the project, my initial idea of making a Minotaur creature changed to animal testing. Having your own project to focus on and being able to create your own outcome appeared challenging, but also rewarding.
My time management was proven effective for the first couple of weeks of the project, but since starting my new job, I was faced with less time to produce my practical work, which meant my days off were crucial to get work done.
I tackled my time efficiently, but the fibreglassing should have taken place sooner than it did. Having never used fibreglass before, I did not realise how time consuming the process was, and realised near the end of the project that I should have managed my time a lot more effectively to avoid any mistakes. As far as making mistakes, my fibreglass mould went extremely well up until a few days before the assessment. My mould over heated due to my mould being over resined, which led to me resorting to plan B of using flat pieces instead.
I found that using a blog to document my work became rewarding at times, because I spent the majority of my time/hours creating my blog and documenting research work, which coincided with my project outcome.
On top of the fibreglass not going to plan, the stage of life casting also did not go plan as the alginate shrunk inside of my locker due to the locker room being locked on the only day I was off from work that week, which meant the mould had to stay in my locker for another four days until I was able to start the next process, so already I could see problems occurring, which made it very stressful for me.
Having not practised the prosthetic applications beforehand, I tried to imagine what they would appear like on my face. Using flat pieces for the prosthetics, I made them, not knowing if they were going to work or not.
During my assessment, the facial prosthetics fitted perfectly and some blended better than others. The original plan of applying a hair prosthetic did not go accordingly as the prosthetic was thick in some places and thin in others, so it would not have blended well, so I did not use it in the end.
After an hour of the make up application, the left eye (right for model) started to uplift due to heat off of the models face, which resulted with me having to re-glue it.
Overall, I am extremely overwhelmed with how effective my campaign appeared to the audience, and was quite surprised how good the prosthetic appeared on camera.
If I could improve one thing, I would say, my time management on my practical should be my number one priority rather than leaving little time for me to make even the littlest of things.
