A sheep-like wesen, also known as a Seelengut. A character from the series Grimm. Demonstrating the use of CGI, which was the case for many of these charcters. A very feminine looking character, that again only used slight hair around the features around the face, but more around the neck and ears. This seemed effective despite the fact they used CGI for this method instead of practical effects. I suppose the fact of having about 18 people or more to makeup as this character was a bit much. I love the use of colour around the ears, and the fact they changed the colour of her eyes to suit that of a sheep.  A slight nose change to flatten her own, which cannot be done with practical effects, so I can see why they decided to just do the entire makeup in CGI. No real change was made to the mouth area, but you can identify what looks feminine and what doesn't. The makeup here is to look subtle. They even kept in the earrings the character was wearing before she transformed into the sheep character. 

 

Something to consider for my outcome, but again I wanted my model to have facial prosthetics. 


 

This video has been taken from the series of Grimm, demonstrating the character before her animal state, and the transformation stage. I wanted to show this clip in particular because I wanted to demonstrate how this character was portrayed as. Her innocent character and personality was taken into consideration, and linked in well with the animal she was given, this was the outcome I wanted to achieve. 

I came across this image upon my research explorationa and particularly loved the context it was set in.  I loved the direction of the flocking that had been applied, and I loved the subtle changes to the face. The make up also demonstrated horns and droopy ears, which is the appearance I wanted to create. 

 

I had never seen a makeup like this before, and having come across it whilst doing my research, the overall look of the makeup just looked natural, and no edges and seam lines made it appear apart of the face. 

I then came across the male specimen of the faun character. I loved the symbolic meanining behind the symbol on the forehead, which got me researching into symbols and culture. 

 

This also gave me some ideas of what to do my for project next year, not so much the faun character repeated, but making an entire face and neck prosthetic, sort of caul like, with loads of detail and hair punching. 

 

I also loved the idea of pulling the entire silicone prosthetic over the head, not worrying about applying the ears and mouth seperately. A great makeup that has inspired me to think of more creative creatures. 

A inspired makeup from the face off series, a male  " heavy metal rock" styled faun/goat. I loved the inspired look, of creating plugs for the ears, replicating what humans have pierced, and the natural prosthetics . 

 

The goaty of course made the character seem more edgy, giving the character personality and an added attitude. 

 

I loved how subtle and effective the horns appeared, and the big surface area of the ears ( which is what I was hoping to create) 

 

I loved the facial prosthetic, but the punk rock sort of look wasn't something I would interested in producing. 

Finalised Ideas

Review....

A overlook view of my project so far, I have decided I wanted to look at mythical creatures, as you are freely able to imagine what these characters would appear like as they arent real. The imagination of the artist is always interesting when it comes to creating a new character. 

So, at this stage during my project, I wanted to create a feminine looking faun, with the use of effective facial prosthetics, and possibly making a hand into a hoof/trotter. I have had various brainwaves as to what my final outcome might look like, but realistically nothing ever looks like you would want it to look like in your head. 

I wanted to make:

- Ears
- A facial prosthetic, which changed the nose, cheeks and forehead
- Horns
- A hoof hand, which allowed the models pinky finger and the ring finger to roam freely. The thumb, index finger and middle finger would be inside a glove-like prosthetic which blended well onto the palm of the hand and onto the back of the hand.

 

Possibly painted with the illustrator palette, flocking applied and hand and ears hair punched to give an effective outcome. 

 

I didn't want any hair punched into the face, as I didn't want it to look more masculine than feminine. 

 

The faun is presented as a half human half goat, (from the head to the waist being human, but with the addition of goat horns) manifestation of forest and animal spirits that would help or hinder humans at whim. Romans believed fauns inspired fear in men traveling in lonely, remote or wild places. They were also capable of guiding humans in need,
