Faun - Narnia

Faun - Narnia

when the first Narnia came out, I was always interested in how they managed to create such amazing effects with the use of makeup. Having studied the film recently, majority of the characters are either prosthetic and animatronic based. Prosthetics always appeared more natural looking, and more effective, but the digital effects never really crossed my mind until today. The fauns are varied within the film, this one appearing more goat like, and more features of a goat.

I had some inspiration from Pinterest when I did a simple search of "Faun Makeup" and this was the sort of simple makeup that came up. Not the sort of makeup I would be interested in creating in my project, but a makeup which is inspiring for photography or fashion.

Again, an inspiration makeup demonstrated with realistic horns , blended well within the models hair, and a simple makeup with paint and some styling of the hair, something to consider but with prosthetics.

Quite a few inspiring makeups that were along the lines of this image, I particularly loved the hairwork and use of jewellery. I would presume this would be more for editorial fashion or advertising.

Great hairwork in this image, which inspired me into thinking how to demonstrate the horns of my creature, and also the hairwork

A photography based inspiration, a very subtle makeup which is hard to identify, but the horns are clearly visible which seems to be the main focus of the shot, a great environement for the shoot.

A very mysterious makeup to the face, and main features of the face brought out with colour, along with a body paint to the lower neck down. Contouring to the cheeks which gives the model attitude, and small horns added to the head, A nice makeup but not something I would consider.

This was amazing, although this came under "Faun" , It looked more like a lion, the facial features such as the nose and jawline looked more lion-like rather than faun, but I particularly loved the head piece and colour use. If the horns weren't included, I would thought it was a lion, seen as the hair drapes down like a lions mane.

A great use of colour to this image, this is what actually made me want to include this picture, not so much the small use of makeup, but the amazing artwork to her head piece, prosthetic ears and all over body jewellery.

This was more along the lines of something I wanted to produce. A great head piece for the horns, very subtle makeup, and great costume work!

Pan's Labrinth

Pan's Labrinth

A film that I had never seen before, only upon researching did I come across such an amazingly presented prosthetic faun. A great use of hairwork, prosthetic and features. This was something more i wanted to create, but more of an application rather than something you wear over the head.

A great inspired makeup, I loved the paintwork she created on the sholders and cheeks, almost replicating the colour of baby fauns ( bambi like ) . Great makeup although only used in paint, still effective, and small prosthetic ears, which was what I wanted to create.

I loved this makeup, all major features of the face were contoured and highlighted to make features appear smaller and bigger than what they are meant to appear like, and I just loved the appearance of this makeup, especially the smokiness around the eyes.

Good old Mr tumnus, he was my favourite character when I was younger, I remember reading books on the lion witch and the wardrobe and the description on him was exactly this. A great use of ear prosthetics, slight nose change, small horns and facial hair. This is more of the sort of character I want to create, but less masculine.

I love the usage of makeup in this, more for editorial purposes, but the eyes in particular was what I was drawn to. A mysterious looking creature with massive horns, and a faced body paint.

A goat-like creature, the usage of beard hair and head hair make the person look more realistic. The horns are textured amazingly , but again I want to create a feminine faun, so this makeup wouldn't apply to me, but possibly the horns and ears might.

A very subtle makeup, a small goaty and small horns added to the forehead. The ears seem to have an add on feature to extend it into a point. To me it clearly looks fake as the nose could of been added into the makeup.

Not a makeup I would use, nothing really interested me in this image bar the amazing ears used, I liked the idea of the ears appearing massive and droopy.

A great inspired makeup from Face off, a faun makeup, with great texturing, facial prosthetics and use of makeup. I love everything about this makeup and it has inspired me on how I can make my model up to something of this degree.

Various makeups and prosthetic applications that could possibly help me aim toward a final piece similiar to these. Most makeups are subtle, but the features are the main focus I have.
